Research Associate for Research Training Group / Mathematics Inspired by String Theory and QFT Universität Hamburg, Department of Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences / Mathematics

Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate for the project “Research Training Group 1670  "Mathematics Inspired by String Theory and QFT” in accordance with Section 28 subsection  3  of  the Hamburg Higher Education Act  (Hamburgisches  Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG). The position commences on October 1, 2017.

It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13and calls for 39hours per week.

The fixed term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the Academic Fixed Term Labor Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of two years.

Duties include academic services in
the project named above. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

The Research Associates duties would include: (1) carry out independent research on a topic in the  scope  of  the  RTG, preferably  in  an  area  of  geometry;  (2)  support  the  doctoral  students  in their  area  of  expertise;  (3)  help  to  run  the  students  self-organized  activities  such  as  the  RTG student seminar; (4) help in the organization of special activities of the RTG such as block seminars and summer schools.


A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. Specificallywe ask for an academic degree in Mathematics or Physics plus doctoral degree. Research with relations to one or several of  the  topics  of  the  Research  Training  Group. A  slight  preference  will  be  given  to  applicants whose research interests relate to at least one of the geometric projects in the RTG.
