DTU Compute’s Section for Image Analysis and Computer Graphics invite applications for an appointment as Professor in Computer Vision. 



DTU Compute is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics, and computer science. DTU Compute plays a central role in education at all levels of the engineering programmes at DTU—both in terms of our scientific disciplines and our didactic innovation.



The aim of the new position is to strengthen the Department’s teaching and research activities in computer vision with industrial applications. There is focus on development of new collaborative research and innovation projects, development of experimental facilities for research, teaching, and innovation, and campus-wide collaboration.



Responsibilities and tasks


The professorship is a research management position through which DTU wishes to reinforce and further develop its activities in the field of computer vision. The professor is to take the lead in this area and, where appropriate, work closely with other faculty in the section, the department, and the university. The tasks include research, teaching as well as innovation.  



The professor will be working in the area of “smart manufacturing”, defined as a strategic area for the department. Computer vision is a key technology in realizing this and the visions behind ‘Industry 4.0’ with regard to the handling, coordination, and quality control in industrial production, especially in the rich and complex interface between autonomous systems and humans (operators, users). The new professors responsibility will be to strengthen teaching, research and innovation in computer vision. There is a focus also on maintaining and expanding experimental facilities for computer vision that can support both innovative research and teaching and student innovation activities.   



The professor will be responsible for teaching in computer vision and related areas and for ensuring that DTU offers a coherent curriculum that meets the demand of the companies and organizations that are the main employers of the universities candidates. The department has a portfolio of courses in image analysis, computer vision, computer graphics and electro-techniques. These are given to the educations: mathematical modelling and computing, digital media-technologies and medicine and technology. Image analysis and computer vision will also be taught to students in the studies which are expected in mechatronics/cyber-physical systems. A course portfolio for continuing education is also expected.   



The professor is expected to make theoretical contributions to computer vision in areas relevant for engineering sciences and to engage in close collaboration with other researchers at the department and the university on applying such methods to the benefit of society.



In most cases, such cooperation will involve collaboration with external partners in the form of companies and organizations. The professor is expected to participate extensively in such activities and take the lead when needed.



At DTU Compute, we value knowledge sharing and cross functionality. Therefore, the professor is expected to cooperate and be eager to build relations with colleagues in the department and with other departments of DTU, e.g. DTU Mechanical Engineering in the field of (smart) manufacturing technology.



The professor is expected to participate in departmental teaching at all levels so the professor should value visionary and meaningful communication. The teaching will cover Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD level courses and courses in continuing education. Bachelor courses are taught in Danish, other courses in English. Non-Danish speakers are not disqualified for the role, but will be trained in Danish in order to participate in teaching on all levels.



Qualifications


Professors are expected to make a special effort in regards to research/innovation and research management. The following qualifications are considered very important: 

  • A strong background in computer vision including theoretical contributions and scientific production at an international level
  • Documented experience with course and curriculum development and teaching at all levels within the field
  • Experience with maintaining and developing experimental facilities
  • Experience with innovation and industrial collaboration with an emphasis on production technology
  • Experience with research collaboration and research management across scientific disciplines

 

Assessment 


In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to 

  • the ability to teach
  • scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • experience with innovation activities
  • an all-round experience basis, including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to the development of internal and external cooperation
  • track record in attracting funding to the research area
  • visions within the research area

 

For the specific position, we will give consideration to the candidates ability to collaborate and lead projects transcending topical boundaries, and to motivate colleagues to be at their best and achieve ambitious goals. The candidate must be motivated by both personal and team accomplishments and thrive with collaboration and team work.



Salary and terms of employment 


The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
