Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate in different ways with society. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of 6.5 billion.

The Department of Information Technology has a leading position in both research and education at all levels. The institution currently has approximately 280 employees, of which 120 teachers and 110 doctoral students. More than 4000 students are studying one or more courses at the department each year and about 30 research groups are linked here. More info: http://www.it.uu.se

Description of the subject area:  This project is aimed at performance and energy efficiency among heterogeneous systems, such as multi- and manycore processors with varying types of cores, big.LITTLE kernels, or CPU + GPU architectures. The project is based on static and dynamic analysis to extract information about application behavior, with particular focus on shared data and memory management patterns. In order to realize this, the project will develop analysis tools that run primarily during compilation, but that can be supplemented with information about program behaviors retrieved while driving from both software and hardware. The software code's features will then run software and combined soft and hardware design optimizations such as smart location of data, program code transfer between kernels,

We expect the candidate to work on further developing compilation technicians and memory systems technologies developed within the Computer Architecture Group UART (Decoupled Access-Execute Compilator Technologies, Reuse Aware Placement Data Management, Cache and Performance Modeling, etc.) and to be driving in projects with the candidate's own background And expertise in focus. More information is available at http://www.it.uu.se/research/uart .

The employment is two years and may include teaching (max 20%) in Swedish or English depending on availability and candidate interests.

The candidate is expected to take an active part in the supervision of doctoral students. These skills are as important as the technical qualifications. Excellent knowledge of oral and written English is a requirement.
