About Mathematical Science Institute (MSI)

The Mathematical Sciences Institute (MSI) aims for research and educational outcomes of the highest quality.  The Institute comprises approximately 45 academics and 9 professional staff members.  The Institute hosts nine mathematical research programs; Algebra & topology, Analysis & geometry, Applied & nonlinear analysis, Bioinformation science, Computational mathematics, Mathematical physics, Statistical science, Stochastic analysis & risk modelling and Theoretical astrophysics.  The Institute offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate teaching programs and is currently hosting approximately 1400 students.

The MSI is strongly committed to improving the gender balance amongst staff and students.  It is taking proactive action towards this goal by reserving one of the distinguished fellowships for females only, named the Hannah Neumann MSI Fellow. Female applicants will be considered for all available fellowships.

Position overview

These three fellowships are established for early career academics to pursue their research-focused career in the field of mathematics, preferably in the research interests that align with one or more of the existing research programs.  For more information about our research program, please visit http://maths.anu.edu.au/research/programs.   The level of this appointment, Academic Level B or C, is to be determined by the appointee’s current research and teaching experience.

Applicants are expected to have an outstanding record in research, teaching and administration relevant to the level of their application. The position may involve some teaching both in the candidate’s area of specialisation and standard mathematics undergraduate courses, however this will be at a reduced level.  These Fellowships will have access to an annual research support grant to cover start-up costs, visitors and conference travel.
