PhD Student in Computer Science / Machine Learning Royal Institute of Technology

PhD student in computer science / machine learning

Royal Institute of Technology

KTH is one of Europe's leading technical universities and an important arena for knowledge development. As Sweden's largest university of technical research and education, we gather students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers both natural sciences and all branches of technology as well as architecture, industrial economics, social planning, technical history and philosophy.

duties

The research field data science is about methods and technology for collecting, organizing and analyzing data with the goal of generating new knowledge. Techniques in the field of machine learning are often used for this analysis, and may, depending on the purpose, result in predictive models that are interpretable, such as decision trees and rules, or which are very complex as random forests, where they later often have a higher predictive performance, but unlike the previous ones, the predictions can not be easily explained. The PhD student will contribute to the research area by developing, analyzing, implementing and evaluating algorithms aimed at reducing the gap between interpreting models with weaker predictive performance and complex, impenetrable models with higher predictive performance. The PhD student will collaborate with researchers and PhD students in various ongoing data science projects, where the technology is applied, for example for predictive maintenance.

The service concerns full-time full-time studies for four years, but can be extended for a further one year at a maximum of 20% institutional service, which usually consists of education. Graduate students must be enrolled at KTH and the application will be initiated on offer for employment. The start date is preliminary on September 1, 2018.
