Permanent Position

The School of Engineering at Warwick seeks an enthusiastic individual to join its new and expanding Connected Systems Research Group as Assistant Professor (appointment at Associate Professor may be considered where appropriate). The research group brings together seven academics with expertise in wireless and optical communication systems, networked embedded systems, and datacenter computing. The group's academics are recognised internationally and have strong links with a number of Doctoral Training Centres including the Warwick Centre for the Science of Cities and The Alan Turing Institute in London, offering the new academic an opportunity to expand their research network. Our academics also enjoy a long-standing relationship with the Department of Computer Science, and the appointee will be involved in the Computer Systems Engineering degree that we offer jointly.

We are seeking someone with a strong track record in digital signal processing, software defined networks, wireless communication systems at the physical layer (including physical layer security), or similar, with a strong preference for experimental and applied research such as FPGA prototyping.

As one of the largest integrated engineering departments in the UK, the School of Engineering supports a unique and outstanding interdisciplinary research environment spanning civil, chemical, mechanical, systems, electrical and electronic engineering. Ranked 4th in the UK in REF 2014 among integrated departments we are looking to further strengthen our research activities in connected systems.

You will pursue independent research of internationally excellent standard as well as collaborate with colleagues within the Connected Systems Research Group to secure significant external funding through research grants or contracts to support a developing research agenda. You will publish the results of your research in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

You will engage in teaching at all levels using relevant teaching methods and undertake curriculum and course development and revision, in line with the mission of a research-led university. You will be comfortable teaching digital systems, foundations of computer architecture, and other topics related to Computer Systems Engineering and Connected Systems.

You will attend meetings and participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups within the School of Engineering.

You will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in computer, electrical and/or electronic engineering and a strong track record of high quality publications in established IEEE and ACM journals and conferences or similar venues. You will have evidenced potential to provide leadership to a team of researchers, and to teach subjects related to computer engineering to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

For appointment at Associate Professor, you will have an international reputation, proven ability to generate external funding to support research projects with tangible impact, a track record of PhD supervision to completion in the areas of interest, and teaching and curriculum development/improvement in areas related to computer engineering and connected systems.
