Job description

The advertiseddoctoral student positions arewithin an ambitious, 5-year European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Project titled "ULTRA". In this 2 Million EUR project, wewant to dramaticallychange the way Internet Services areconstructed.

Yourworkwillentail design, implementation, and evaluationofdistributed systems and networks for building ultra-lowlatency Internet services. Examplesincludeadvancedhighlystreamlined server software, NetworkFunctionsVirtualization (NFV) chains at the true speed of the underlying hardware, intra datacenter load-balancing, and agile and efficient geo-distributed data storage systems thatmeettheir Service LevelObjectives.
Youwill be part of the Network Systems Laboratory (NSLab), withyour studies supervised by Professor Dejan Kostic.

In addition to yourdoctoral studies, youwill be expected to teach or performotherdepartmentaldutiesup to 20%of full-time. Doctoral student employment at KTH offers excellentconditionswithcompetitivesalaries, healthcare, social security, and contributions to pension funds.


The applicantshouldhold a Master'sof Science degree or a similardegreewhichfulfills the entryrequirements for doctoral studies at KTH.

A successfulcandidateneeds to have: (1) a strong background in distributed systems, networking, programming, and operating systems, (2) excellent knowledgeofwritten and spoken English, (3) verygoodcritical reasoning skills, (4) verygoodknowledgeof C++ and Linux/UNIX, (5) strong motivation, with a desire to experiment, explore, and diagnosecomplex problems, and (6) the ability to developinto an independent researcher in keepingwith the national learningoutcomes for a doctoral student.
