Duties and responsibilities
The Research Assistant / Associate Software Engineer will work at the Data Science Institute with the Director Professor Yike Guo and his team.The project focuses on the development of a plaform for the management and analysis of bioinformatics data at scale for use at an internal and national level. The system is developed based on current technologies leveraging stateless NodeJS and ReactJS in containters to provide a full stack JavaScript solution at scale able to process terrabytes per second of medical and translational data.The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive expertise in software engineering. We will expect you to be a self-motivated individual with the ability to take responsibility for key components of the development. You should also be comfortable working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment to develop and provide software to meet the needs of the projects.
Essential requirements
To apply at Research Assistant level you must have a good first degree (or equivalent) or Masters (or equivalent) in a related area.At Research Associate level you mush have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering or informatics or significant software development experience with an emphasis on large-scale scientific data management.A proven research record with publications in the relevant areas is also required. You must be fluent in English.Extensive programming skills in JavaScript ES6 is imperative. Prior knownledge of NodeJS and ReactJS functioning in Flux architecture is desirable. The candidate must also be familiar with the challenges of writing distributed stateless software.
