Work Tasks and

Academic Environment The subject area for the post is mathematics / mathematics didactics.


The position is organizationally attached to the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Humanities, Department of Primary School Teacher Education, Sport and Special Education.


As a associate professor you will mainly teach and guide students at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level in mathematical subjects, research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the institute, as well as contribute to the development of cooperation with the workplace. Development of varied and digital learning methods in teaching, innovation and value creation based on results from research and academic development work, is part of the position. The position recommendation provides a detailed description of the subject area and relevant tasks for associate professor.


The group actively works on several research areas with different themes in mathematics didactics. For some years, some have worked on a practice-based theory of mathematics education (UKM). Others are involved in a project related to learning and teaching in mathematics based on Zankov's theories of developing education. Throughout the project, Teachers as Students (TasS, 2012-2015) we have gained experience with the use of Lesson Study in teacher training practice training. Several in the research group are also involved in a development and assistance project in Malawi.


Competency requirements

We apply for a doctorate with a doctorate or equivalent competence in the field of study. Applicants with specialization in primary school teacher education 1-7. Steps are preferred, but applicants with specialization in nearby areas may also be current candidates.


You must be able to document pedagogical and didactic competence related to higher education, and you should have experience from teaching, preferably both primary and secondary education from university / university college. Knowledge of Norwegian school is an advantage.


Furthermore, it is emphasized that you have:

  • A reflective and conscious attitude towards own teaching and counseling activities.
  • Ability to involve and engage students in teaching where education goals, content and assessment situations are closely linked.
