Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London. The position is funded by the European Research Council, and forms part of a program involving the stability of black hole spacetimes in general relativity.

 

Duties and responsibilities


The project will involve doing a PhD under the supervision of Dr Gustav Holzegel (and his research group at Imperial) on topics related to the analysis of the Einstein equations. Depending on the expertise and interests of the candidate, this will involve, with potentially different weightings, the study of non-linear partial differential equations, Lorentzian geometry and the analysis of black hole spacetimes.

 

Essential requirements


It is essential that the candidate holds a first class undergraduate degree and it is desirable that he or she has taken introductory courses in Differential Geometry and Partial Differential Equations or a General Relativity course in the Physics Department.

 

Skills and abilities:


• Ability to carry out original research and to write a PhD thesis
• Ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods
• High level analytical capability
