Research Associate, Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow, and Project Officer Nanyang Technological University Singapore

Established in 2014, The Complexity Institute is becoming a global centre for complexity research. Located in Singapore on the campus of Asia’s fastest rising young universities, the Institute is organised to facilitate transdisciplinary team-based science. The Institute is a centre for transdisciplinary research and teaching on complexity and complex adaptive systems. They study how interactions within a system and its environment generate dynamical patterns of behaviour.

 

The Complexity Institute seeks applications for the positions of Research Associate, Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow, and Project Officer for up to a 2-year term (with a possibility of extension). An attractive remuneration based on the experiences and qualifications and a standard benefit package competitive with the industry will be provided for the successful applicants.

 

The successful candidate will be part of a research team working on an exciting multidisciplinary project, in collaboration with Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), funded by National Research Foundation (NRF) under the Virtual Singapore (VS) program. The project is focused on using agent-based modelling and simulation technologies to optimize the preparation and operation of emergency medical services (EMS). The following three specific problems will be addressed in the project: i) EMS provision for incidences at crowded places; ii) evacuation of Emergency Department (ED); and ii) placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public housing estates.

 

 

Available Positions:

 

Research Associate (JOB-2018-0181244)

 

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in the area of data analytics and optimization and good understanding of modelling and simulation techniques. Preference will be given to the candidates who have experiences in data-driven agent-based modelling. 

 

  • At least Master’s Degree in Computer Science / Computational Science or related discipline from reputable universities
  • Experience in data analytics and optimization
  • Knowledge of modelling and simulation techniques
  • Strong programming skills on C++, Java, and Python
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Excellent analytical, technical and problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

Research Fellow (JOB-2018-0185290) / Senior Research Fellow (JOB-2018-0185302)

 

The successful candidate should have expertise in technical areas, such as agent-based crowd modelling and simulation, 3D modelling and visualisation, data analysis and optimisation. Good management and supervision skills are a must. Understanding of medical emergency procedures is advantageous but not essential.

 

  • Ph.D in Computer Science / Computational Science or related discipline from reputable universities
  • Strong technical experience in modelling and simulation
  • Understanding of agent-based crowd modelling and simulation, data analytics and optimisation techniques
  • Excellent publication track record in the above mentioned areas
  • Strong programming skills on C++, Java, and Python
  • Strong project management experience with excellent planning skills
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Strong ability to work independently and work in a team
  • Goal oriented and ability to meet multiple priorities and timelines
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the development of the project

 

 

Project Officer (Software Engineer) (JOB-2018-0181228)

 

The successful candidate should have strong software engineering expertise in 3D modelling and visualisation and experience on large-scale software development and integration. Preference will be given to the candidates who have experiences in 3D map data and CityGML models. Prior knowledge of geographic information systems (such as ArcGIS) is advantageous but not essential. 

 

  • At least Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering or related discipline from reputable universities
  • Demonstrated knowledge in 3D modelling and visualisation
  • Experience with large-scale software development and integration
  • Strong programming skills on C++, Java, and Python
  • Excellent analytical, technical and problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the development of the project
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
