The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) at the University of Amsterdam invites you to apply for a postdoctoral position in the area of quantum information science. Possible topics include, but are not limited to, algorithms, complexity, and communication; quantum software; tensors, symmetries, and optimization; many-body theory and tensor networks.

 

Project description

 

You will be affiliated with the QuSoft Research Center, which has a broad and diverse research profile extending across all of quantum information science. QuSoft faculty with active research interests in the area include: Jop Briët, Harry Buhrman, Serge Fehr, Peter Grünwald, Stacey Jeffery, Monique Laurent, Maris Ozols, Christian Schaffner, Michael Walter, and Ronald de Wolf. You will also have the opportunity to interact with the many other researchers at the University of Amsterdam and at CWI whose work intersects with quantum information.

 

You are expected to work on independent projects, as well as in collaboration with members of QuSoft. You will also be involved in teaching in our Bachelor's and/or Master's programmes in Mathematics and Physics (about 10% of your appointment). An appropriate travel budget will be provided to attend conferences and present relevant publications.

 

Requirements

  • A completed PhD in a field relevant to quantum information science, such as mathematics, computer science, or physics;

  • an excellent track record of research, documented by publications, conference talks, etc.;

  • fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Appointment

The starting date of the appointment is flexible but should be no later than 1 September 2019.

 

The full-time appointment will be on a temporary basis for initially one year, with an extension to a maximum period of two years after a positive evaluation. The full-time gross monthly salary will range from €2,640 to € 4,166 depending on experience. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable. The annual salary will be increased by an 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus.
