TENURE-TRACK PROFESSORSHIP (W1 TENURE TRACK
LEADING TO A W2) FOR INFORMATICS WITH A FOCUS ON
DISTRIBUTED OPERATING SYSTEMS (MOBILE/CLOUD)


commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. JP 291.


Responsibilities:


We seek a specialist for research and teaching in the field of operating systems with a focus on
mobile and distributed systems.


We are looking for a researcher with a track record of high-level publications and research in the
field of distributed operating systems with a research focus on, for example, mobile operating
systems and mobile cloud computing, the theory of distributed (operating) systems, robotics, or
the Internet of Things (sensors/actuators) with very low resources. Experience with applications
relating to distributed operating systems is strongly preferred.


We expect active participation in existing and future interdisciplinary research projects in the
Department of Informatics’ information governance technology research area. This includes cooperation both with other research groups in the Department and with interdisciplinary research groups at our University.
Furthermore, we expect active participation in ahoi.digital, the cooperation platform for informatics at Hamburg’s higher education institutions.


Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches
Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.


Requirements:
Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 18 HmbHG.


Additional criteria:
Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track
record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University
places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.


Applicants should outline their proposed scientific direction for this position in a research proposal. The successful candidate is expected to have very good teaching skills and be prepared to
contribute to undergraduate teaching in all degree programs at the Department of Informatics
and the instruction of teacher-training students.

A tenure-track evaluation will be conducted during the second phase of the junior professorship
in order to determine whether requirements for appointment to a W2 professorship have been
met. Section 15 HmbHG applies. If the evaluation is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured W2 professorship. The regulations prohibiting internal appointments (Hausberufungsverbot) also apply to this junior professorship.
