Assistant Professor – Computer Science
SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY
 
The Computer Science program invites applications for tenure track, 9-month, faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2020. All applicants should have a strong commitment to teaching.
All specialties will receive full consideration, but we are especially interested in candidates with backgrounds in software engineering, large-scale data management, information retrieval, machine learning, data security, distributed systems, networking, and programming languages/environments.
 
All applicants should hold a Doctorate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, though Assistant Professors may be ABD and complete their doctorate while employed at SOU. Candidates should exhibit an openness and flexibility in seeking ways to address changing student and regional employer needs. Preference will be given to candidates who (1) show promise to attract and retain students interested in computer science, (2) have industry experience and can expand/deepen SOU’s connections with the local tech industry, and/or (3) have demonstrated ability to successfully nurture interested students from a diverse student population (including a number of low income, first generation, and non-traditional students). ABOUT THE CS PROGRAM
The Computer Science program offers a well-rounded degree that seeks to develop digital problem solvers equipped to meet the ever-changing technological needs of today’s world. All faculty teach a variety of programming and core courses that provide students with a solid background in computer science with a focus on software development, algorithms, and data structures. Faculty also teach one or two electives in each of their areas of expertise. A diversity of expertise is sought to maintain a rich degree program that provides additional breadth and depth through elective offerings aligned with student interests and employer needs.

Southern Oregon University is a regionally engaged learning community committed to being the educational provider of choice for learners throughout their lives. It delivers its programs on a beautiful 175-acre campus located in Ashland, in the Higher Education Center in Medford, and online. It serves approximately 6,200 students with the majority coming from southern Oregon and northern California. SOU’s main campus is located in Ashland, Oregon, a vibrant and welcoming town with ready access to an array of resplendent natural wonders, including Mt. Ashland, the Rogue River and Crater Lake National Park. These mountains and rivers serve as laboratories and classrooms for outdoor leadership, environmental studies, and science research. Ashland is also home to the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport provides easy access to destinations throughout the United States, and Interstate 5 serves as a major transportation artery.
