The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Preference will be given to candidates specializing in any of the following areas: cloud computing, machine learning, big data and data analytics, cyber security, networking and Internet of Things, or software engineering.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to integrate with existing research expertise in the department and to engage in applied, industrial research. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field and will become a member of the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics ( The appointment is expected to commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, at UBC’s Okanagan campus, is a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary department of more than 30 faculty members with research clusters in data science, machine learning, optimization, and medical physics, as well as active engagement in the scholarship of teaching. Within Computer Science, in particular, there is dynamic research in machine learning, artificial intelligence and network science, data integration, big data, and Internet of Things; and analytics, modeling, optimization, and computer-aided analysis. 


The Department is housed in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences. The Faculty is undergoing a transition that will result in the formation of an autonomous Faculty of Science and an autonomous Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in 2020.
