Tenure-system computer science faculty are expected to establish a vibrant, sustainable, and internationally visible research program; make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline; be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students; engage in institutional and professional service as well as public outreach; and contribute toward the university’s DEI mission. The Department and College have a strong track record of mentoring junior faculty to successfully grow their academic careers. The Department has strong research programs in several areas of Computer Science and Engineering. The Department has accredited B.S. degree programs in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. The Department also offers a B.S. degree in Computational Data Science. There are currently over 230 graduate students and 1,800 undergraduate students in the Department. Department faculty have been actively involved in leading several national-level centers, including BEACON, an NSF Science and Technology Center for the study of evolution in action that is headquartered at MSU, and CITeR, an NSF-IUCRC enterprise focusing on Biometrics and Identity Science. MSU's annual research expenditure is around $725M. University researchers and scholars are internationally renowned and are facilitating broad social, economic, and technological impact.
