We are inviting applications for the position of Associate Professor in the Large-Scale Knowledge
Processing Laboratory, Research Group of Knowledge Software Science, Division of Computer Science
and Information Technology, Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University.

Duties in education:
Lectures, seminar, experiments, and exercise courses related to computer science and information
technology at Graduate School of information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University (see
Appendix 1).


Qualifications:
(1) Applicant should have a doctoral degree or Ph.D.


(2) Applicants should possess an advanced knowledge of large-scale knowledge processing
with remarkable research accomplishments and achievements (see Appendix 2).


(3) Applicant should have the ability to provide instruction in subjects described in “Duties in
education” both in Japanese and English.


(4) Applicant should have the ability to undertake administrative tasks of the faculty, graduate
school and undergraduate school.

(4) Summary of the past academic and research activities within 500 words (in English). Please
mention the role of your major research projects activities including international
collaboration, joint research with industry and academic project such as Kakenhi.


(5) Future teaching plan within 500 words (in English). If he/she has experience in academic
education, please mention such activities in the plan.


(6) Future research plan within 500 words (in English).

Appendix
1. The successful applicant will partly or fully give the lectures listed below, for which the Largescale Knowledge Processing Laboratory is responsible.
(1) Subjects in the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology (see Appendix 1):
Large-Scale Knowledge Processing, Laboratory seminar, and others
(2) Subjects in the School of Engineering:
Information theory, Data analysis, Data Mining and Machine Learning, Exercise in
Technical English, and others.
(3) Subjects in the general education: The World of Science and Technology, Freshman
Seminar, and others.


2. The Large-scale Knowledge Processing Laboratory studies information technology for largescale knowledge processing based on algorithms for discrete structure. Working through these
researches, they conduct research and education on knowledge processing method to analyze and
solve real-world problems in science, industry, and societies. Applicants also should have high
motivation for education of graduate and undergraduate students and the ability to participate
guidance for research and thesis. We invite applicants who will conduct theoretical research on
large-scale knowledge processing, discrete algorithms, graph theory, optimization, machine
learning, statistical science, or application of such theories to solve important real-world
problems..
