Lecturer Challenge-Based learning in Geo-Information Science

We are looking for

Are you a hardworking person with some knowledge on geo-information, remote sensing and its applications? Do you have experience in challenge-based learning do you enjoy creating new education material? And are you a great teammate, willing to join us for successful and innovative education? Then we would like to get you on board!

To support our group’s education, we are hiring a Lecturer on Challenge Based Learning. Student challenges are now part of the WUR education ecosystem, offering learning and personal development opportunities outside of the regular curriculum. Therefore we like to offer challenge-based learning to all our students and include it into our curriculum. The goal of this part-time function is to investigate and trial personalized/flexible learning and (student) challenges within the MGI (Master in Geo-Information Sciences) study program.

We need someone who is eager to find out if challenge-based learning will fit the MGI program, and which existing courses would be suitable for it. The work will include 1) assisting the educational staff to investigate possibilities for a multitude of GIS, Remote Sensing and Data Science courses and 2) work on implementation for a selected number of courses. For this role it is important to have the following personal competences: academic spirit, creativity, a collaborative personality and a proactive attitude.

Finally, if you are interested there will also be possibilities to get involved in actual teaching. You will do this at the greenest and most innovative campus in the Netherlands, and at a university that has been chosen as the “Best University” for the 16th consecutive time.

We ask

  • Either: MSc in Geo-information Science, Remote Sensing or a related field, or BSc in this domain with relevant work experience;
  • Or: a background in didactics or educational science;
  • a true love for new concepts of challenge-based learning;
  • proficiency in English is an absolute pre-requisite.

We offer

We offer excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and paid parental leave;
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • the option to accrue additional holiday hours by working more, up to 40 hours per week;
  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed December bonus of 8.3%;

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a one year contract for 0.5 fte, with a competitive gross salary of between € 2.790,- and € 4.402,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10).
