Position description

The Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Davis, offers temporary Lecturer positions to teach undergraduate courses from January 2023 through June 2024. These positions are dependent upon the instructional needs of the department and may be full- or part-time. A list of the courses that may be available is included below. Other courses may also be available depending on instructional needs, and lecturers can also be offered the opportunity to lead undergraduate student research projects (ECS 190/192/199 units) and develop newer seminars/courses with broad appeal in areas that influence computer science and engineering education.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have at least a Master's degree, and preferably a Ph.D., in CS or a closely related field. Previous teaching experience and evidence of teaching excellence or potential for excellence is preferred.

SALARY: Salary and appointment level commensurate with experience and percentage of appointment. The positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement (Unit 18).

APPOINTMENT DATES: Assignments vary according to type of course and percentage of appointment. Service periods are:

  • Winter Quarter 2023: January 06, 2023 – March 24, 2023
  • Spring Quarter 2023: March 30, 2023 – June 15, 2023
  • Fall Quarter 2023: September 25, 2023 – December 15, 2023
  • Winter Quarter 2024: January 5, 2024 – March 22, 2022
  • Spring Quarter 2024: March 28, 2024 – June 13, 2024

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A. Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a closely related field at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications

B. PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
C. Demonstrated teaching ability at college or university level.
D. A developing record of scholarly or professional achievements in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the courses listed by the applicant.
