Applications are invited for the position of Chair, Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science. Applicants must be tenured faculty members at Western. A record of high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervision,and research in Statistical, Actuarial, and/or Financial Modelling is required, as well assome administrative experience.

The successful candidate will have a clear vision for

the direction of the Department, demonstrated leadership ability, and excellent
communication skills. The Chair will consult with the Dean on departmental budgetary
requirements and administer the departmental budget. The successful candidate will be
energetic, creative, and able to recognize, take, and create opportunities.


The Chair will develop and implement a strategy for mentoring, developing, and supportingdepartmental Faculty and Staff across career stages. The Department of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences has many important joint endeavours with Biology, Computer Science, and Economics, as well as with the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Mathematics through Western's School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences.Consequently, the successful candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships both within Science and across the Western Community, as well as in the Canadian Statistical, Actuarial, and Financial Modelling communities.

The Chair will be expected to develop and facilitate the implementation of a
departmental academic, research and administrative plan, and be part of the team who
will help develop and implement a new academic, research, and administrative plan for
the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences. Furthermore, the Chair will be a part
of the Faculty of Science leadership team and as such, will help develop a new
academic plan for the Faculty of Science.

These plans must be consistent with one
another, as well as with the strategic plans of the University, and will aim to position the
Department within the top tier of Canadian Departments offering programs in Actuarial
Science, Biostatistics, Data Science, Financial Modelling, and Statistics.

curriculum vitae. The term of the appointment will be negotiated for a three to five year
term. The appointment is anticipated to commence on July 1, 2019.
