Postdoc in Computational Modelling

A 2-year postdoc position in Computational Modelling from November 1, 2019 until October 31, 2021 is open at SDU NanoSYD, Mads Clausen Institute, (www.sdu.dk/nanosyd) at the University of Southern Denmark (Sønderborg Campus).

The postdoc is expected to carry out research among others within the project "Access and Acceleration” supported by the Interreg Deutschland-Danmark program. The project combines the acquired competencies of mathematical and computational modelling and machine learning (SDU NanoSYD), medical device technology (Stryker Trauma GmbH) and other areas within the health economy. The project builds up a platform in the Danish-German region to initiate and carry out joint cooperation between academy, health care professionals and industry. The work involves computational multiphysics modelling, specifically in the fields of photonics, solid mechanics and electronics, combined with topological optimization, image processing and machine learning techniques.

The postdoc is also expected to be actively involved in the supervision of MSc and PhD students affiliated with SDU NanoSYD as well as in developing new projects with industry partners at SDU NanoSYD.

Potential candidates for the postdoctoral position are expected to have a relevant PhD degree and documented research experience within the numerical solution of partial differential equations (finite differences, finite elements, rigorous and analytical methods) in photonics, solid mechanics and electronics. Experience in mathematical optimization, machine learning and image processing as well as in modelling thermodynamics and (micro)fluidics will also be considered an advantage. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills. A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required.
