Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) Colorado School of Mines – Golden, Colorado Overview Engineering a world of possibilities The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines invites applications for up to three (3) Postdoctoral Fellowship positions to begin (subject to availability) in August 2026. This is a two-year appointment (based on satisfactory performance) and may be renewed for an additional year. The AMS department is a diverse and collegial cohort of 23 faculty members, evenly split between research and teaching faculty. Research areas include mathematical biology, mathematical geosciences, applied partial differential equations, environmental and spatial statistics, scientific computing, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Mines offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in applied mathematics and statistics and provides foundational mathematics coursework for all other majors. Primary Responsibilities Teach 3–4 courses per year. Primary teaching responsibilities include Calculus I–III and Differential Equations. Opportunities may also exist to teach courses such as: Intro to Scientific Computing Linear Algebra Intro to Statistics Intro to Probability Collaborate with an assigned AMS faculty research mentor for professional research development. Engage in departmental collaborations in research or curricular development. Additional Responsibilities Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences. Collaborate within an associated research group, including faculty, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students. Participate in grant-writing and preparation of annual reports. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, Statistics, or a related field by August 2026. Previous experience teaching mathematics at the collegiate level. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong commitment to and experience with undergraduate teaching. Experience with mathematics research (journal and/or conference publications). Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills for collaborative work. Preferred Qualifications Education and Experience Undergraduate teaching experience in a coordinated, multi-section environment. Experience and strong promise in applied and computational mathematics, mathematical biology, applied PDEs, or statistics. Interest in interdisciplinary research.
