UCLA Center X seeks a 100% Postdoctoral Scholar to support the research, evaluation, and data-driven inquiry activity of a 5-year, federally funded STEM+C3 teacher residency program. STEM+C3 is a new program that will enroll its first cohort of students in August 2020. Anticipated start date of the position is July 1, 2020.

UCLA STEM+C3 is an 18-month urban teacher residency program focused on innovative teacher preparation and building the capacity of math and science teachers to integrate computational thinking and computer science principles in secondary mathematics and science classrooms. Teacher candidates who complete the STEM+C3 program are eligible for a California Preliminary Teaching Credential, a Supplementary Authorization in Computer Science, and a Master’s in Education.


● Experience working in K-12 public schools, preferably in urban communities
● Discipline-specific conceptual knowledge in STEM and/or Computer Science
● Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative skills including analytical approaches to research design
● Ability to design sound research protocols, safely perform techniques necessary to conduct an analyze data, and navigate the UCLA webIRB, grant application and scientific publishing processes
● Demonstrated writing, speaking, and listening skills that enable effective communication with colleagues, students, the research and practice community, and the general public
● Adherence to professional standards and practices that reflect and advance the values and guiding principles of Center X
● Travel to/from partner schools in the Centinela Valley Unified High School District (CVUHSD) to conduct research activities
● Travel to and from LAUSD partner schools to provide mentoring and field support and attend regular meetings with TEP Faculty Advisor working with Math and Science candidates.
● Ability to collaborate with pre-service and/or beginning STEM teachers, including lesson observation and feedback cycles
● Ability to collaborate with TEP Math and Science faculty to improve teacher development and support, including participation in regular meetings and professional learning activities.
