Description:
The Lustig Laboratory at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking an MRI scientist to develop MRI techniques for fast imaging, advanced reconstructions and clinical translation. The scientist will also mentor students and assist in managing a new MRI facility at UC Berkeley.

Appointment Length:
This is a full time, one year position with the possibility of being extended subject to performance and budgetary approval. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2020.

Responsibilities:
The candidate will pursue independent research toward accelerated magnetic resonance imaging as well as help manage the Lustig group’s scanning and computing resources. He/she will collaborate with our academic, clinical, and industrial partners including Stanford, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, GE Healthcare, and others. The scientist will provide leadership in areas of signal processing, high-performance computing, and clinical translation to researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will disseminate the work through journal publications, conference presentations, open-source software implementations, and other avenues. The scientist will be expected to develop new tools and procedures for the lab, including safety and operational protocols for the scanning resources available to the group.

The candidate will work on projects related to the following areas:
• Accelerated 4D imaging
• Quantitative imaging
• Clinical translation
• High-performance computing
• Machine learning

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with the broad spectrum of researchers in Berkeley's Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department.

In addition, the candidate will communicate this research to the public and potential partners.

Basic Qualifications:
A PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program granting program at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications (by start date):
PhD or equivalent international degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A track record of published lead-author papers and talks at conferences
• Demonstrated experience with advanced iterative reconstruction for MRI.
• Knowledge and experience with writing MRI pulse sequence and reconstruction code, with preference to GE systems. Other systems OK too.
• Proven experience with clinical translation and working with clinicians and MRI technicians.
• Experience using cloud-based tools such as Amazon Web Services.
• Knowledge and experience in machine learning for medical imaging.
• Mentoring experience.
• Demonstrated programming skills in C, C++,Python, GPU programming and MATLAB.
• Ability to communicate research to the public and potential partners

Salary:
Salary and title will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on UC Berkeley salary scales.
