Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) - Faculty II – Mathematics and Natural Sciences – Institute of Mathematics invites applications for a
Working field:
The position requires research and teaching in the development, analysis and implementation of mathematical methods for the automatized, energy based generation of model hierarchies, for the data based identification of model parameters, as well as error analysis and uncertainty quantification. It is expected that the successful applicant will participate in major research projects, such as collaborative research centers and research training groups, such as CRC 1029 TurbIn, CRC 910, RTG DAEDALUS, CRC TRR 154, and the cluster of excellence MATH+. Teaching will be required in all mathematical degree programs (including undergraduate) and in the service teaching of mathematics for other programs. Candidates should be able to teach in German and English. Furthermore, candidates are expected to supervise students’ theses on Bachelor, Master and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.
Requirements:
Successful applicants must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act). These include a completed academic education in mathematics or a comparable discipline, qualified achievements in research (doctorate in mathematics), additional academic achievements and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, to be demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access no. 144242, details will be sent upon request). Candidates should have an internationally visible profile based on excellent achievements in current mathematical research as demonstrated by relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals. She or he should work in an area of Mathematical Modeling and be able to represent the field in research and teaching. Relevant experience in teaching, including the supervision of Bachelor's, Master's and PhD theses, as well as experience in administrative duties and experience in third-party funded and joint research projects is expected. Competencies in the promotion of junior researchers and women as well as in the area of gender and diversity are desired. The area of research expertise should allow an integration in the working group “Modeling, Numerics and Differential Equations” and the WvSC as well as further collaborative research projects. An adequate involvement in the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) and the Berlin International Graduate School in Model and Simulation based Research (BIMoS) is desired.
