About This Opportunity

This position will join the group of Associate Professor Blaskovich and focuses on investigating chemo-informatic machine learning methods to analyse the extensive antimicrobial data from the groups research and public sources.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertake general chemoinformatic and modelling methods to advance the discovery and development of novel antimicrobial agents. 
  • Investigate machine learning methods to build predictive models for biological activity.
  • Investigate predictive analysis method to understand chemical properties responsible for antimicrobial activity and bacterial drug resistance.
  • Coordinate sourcing and testing of chemical compounds to validate predictive hypotheses
  • Maintenance of research databases to record chemical information, microbial information and biological activity results.
  • Maintenance of research data analysis methods and models to be applicable to the groups antimicrobial dug development projects.

This position is primarily located at our picturesque St Lucia campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

You must have a PhD (or significant progress towards) in a relevant area of chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, machine learning or molecular biology. In addition, expertise in machine learning or deep learning, research data analysis and chemoinformatics is essential to the role. Experience in the research areas of organic or medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and development, molecular or structural biology, microbiology and advanced IT skills, including relational databases and coding will be highly advantageous.

What We Can Offer

This is a fixed term, full time position for 12 months at Academic level A with the possibility of extension.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,729.74 - $94,637.91, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,753.80 -  $110,726.35  per annum.
