Assistant Professor in Computer Science with focus on “Embedded Sensing Systems (including Industrial Networks)” (non-tenure track)

The University of St.Gallen is strengthening its degree programs in Computer Science with a new Assistant Professorship in the field of Embedded Sensing Systems and Industrial Networks. We seek an individual who will direct the creation of a new research group in this context while being motivated by the
prospect to actively contribute to the further development of the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen, and to build bridges with other disciplines at our university. This Assistant Professorship position is created in the context of a new collaboration of the University of St.Gallen with the
Austrian state of Vorarlberg and will be endowed with the full funding for three assistant positions to
start a powerful research group. While the position is fully embedded in the School of Computer Science
at the University of St.Gallen, the candidate’s main work location is at the to-be-founded HSG Institute
of Computer Science Vorarlberg, which will also host the research group and is at the center of the local
industry in Dornbirn, Austria (45 minutes from St. Gallen).

Successful candidates have a PhD in Computer Science or a related field and the potential to develop international recognition in one or several of the topics of the call. They bring sufficient academic maturity
and independence in research and teaching. A track record in industry collaboration as well as in thirdparty funding is desired. Enthusiasm for teaching and the development of new courses is expected to
shape the Computer Science programs at the University of St.Gallen.

The university is searching for candidates with a strong research background in one or more of the following topics:

• System software for embedded sensing systems
• Embedded (industrial) sensors
• Reliable, highly available embedded systems
• Low-power, battery-powered, and opportunistically powered sensing systems
• (Robust, secure, wireless) Industrial Networks
• Embedded information processing
• Time-sensitive Networking
• Hardware architectures and design processes for embedded systems
• System-oriented procedures, methods and technologies for increasing efficiency of energy
use in industry, buildings, and mobility as well as its generation and delivery

We are looking for a team-oriented and committed personality whose research activities offer links to the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen. For this position, we seek candidates per February 1st 2023 or by mutual agreement. The University of St.Gallen is committed to increasing the number of international scholars among its faculty.
