The Faculty of Information technology is recruiting new top experts in research in the field. We are looking for Professor in Quantum Computing The position will be filled until further notice from January 1, 2023 or as agreed. The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä is very strong in scientific research and highly recognized in the academic rankings of world universities. The faculty is also of the main academic educators in the IT field in Finland. The University has recently launched a new bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral program in engineering, and accordingly, the faculty is expanding its research and teaching activities in quantum computing. The Professor is expected to support the faculty strategy by carrying out topical and competent scientific research in cooperation with the existing staff and the stakeholders of the faculty. The elected person will also teach and take part in developing the study programs of the faculty as well as in renewing teaching practices. The faculty has a long tradition in computational science, especially in mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, and optimization. We work with developers of quantum computer hardware. The recruitment of a Professor prepares for the new opportunities brought by the development of quantum computers and the anticipated change in solving computationally demanding tasks without developing the quantum computer equipment itself. Duties and requirements We seek to identify and exploit the future potential of quantum computing and the opportunities it provides, which requires a sufficiently in-depth understanding of quantum computing. You are the person we are looking for if you are doing internationally high-level research on the potential and application of quantum computing in future IT systems. In addition to the research activities, the Professor will have teaching duties and doctoral training. Professor will also supervise undergraduate students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers. In addition, the selected person will participate in the continuous development of teaching and will also have administrative tasks. The Professor to be recruited is expected to contribute to the responsibility for research projects in their field and to obtain funding for the research team. In addition, the Professor participates in the social interaction of their area of expertise. We require an applicable doctorate, high scientific competence, rich experience in teaching, supervising Ph.D theses and postdoctoral students, leading research activities, and strong evidence of national and international research cooperation and gaining research funding. Salary Salary is based on duty-specific job demands and personal performance according to the University’s salary system. A trial period of six months when first employed for the position. The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä is the first and largest in its field in Finland. The mission of the faculty is to create a science-based digital future. In research, education, and stakeholder collaboration, the faculty combines comprehensively the viewpoints of technology, information, organizations, business, and people. The IT Faculty employs 180 people and, currently, there are 2400 undergraduate students and 150 postgraduate students. Teaching is given both in Finnish and in English. Strong collaboration with companies and other actors in society is based on long-term research. The faculty’s research is organized through four areas of activity, which are computational science, software and telecommunications technology, information systems science, and educational technology and cognitive science.
