Research at Nordita covers a wide range of modern theoretical physics including astrophysics, biological physics, condensed matter physics, gravitation, cosmology and astroparticle physics, quantum information, high-energy physics, and statistical physics/complex systems. WINQ is part of an ambitious, wide-ranging strategic initiative in frontier information technologies funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW). WINQ aims, over the next few years, to nurture research activities centered around theory of quantum information and complex networks. The assistant professor is expected to lead a research group and contribute to an active and creative research environment at the mathematics department at SU and to the activities within the WINQ initiative at Nordita. Workplaces will be provided at both institutions. Teaching duties include supervision of Master’s theses as well as basic courses in mathematics and more specialized courses within the subject field on both Master and PhD levels. With its long tradition of excellent research, the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has a prominent place in Scandinavian mathematics. The department consists of three departments: mathematics, mathematical statistics and computational mathematics. Researchers working at the Department of Mathematics have skills that span many different branches of mathematics, from algebra, geometry and analysis to mathematical logic, mathematical statistics and computational mathematics.
