ETH Zurich, SwitzerlandPhD position: Future Urban Energy Systems Modeling and Analysis (100%)The Chair of Architecture and Building Systems (A/S) at ETH Zurich focuses on integrated and multi-scale approaches to the design and operation of high-performing building energy systems. The motivation behind our research is to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the built environment while increasing the livability level of cities. The research is based on the integration of advanced technologies, methods and processes from the fields of urban planning & design, energy planning, building systems analysis, operations research and ICT. PhD position: Future Urban Energy Systems Modeling and Analysis (100%)
We are looking for highly skilled and motivated candidates to work on research, modeling and simulation of energy conversion and supply building systems with special focus on district scale heating systems. You will form part of an interdisciplinary team researching on the design and operation of energy systems for high-performing urban areas. Your strong analytical skills are complemented with a solid knowledge of energy conversion technologies and HVAC systems on both building and urban scale. Thanks to your good programming skills you are able to contribute to the ongoing development of a software framework for the analysis of building energy systems in districts. As part of a wider European research projects, you will be encouraged to testbed your research in case studies across Europe and Switzerland.
The candidate should have a master degree in environmental-, mechanical-, process-, electrical-, civil- or building systems engineering ideally already focused on urban energy infrastructure. Good knowledge of the state-of-the-art of building and district energy systems. Basic knowledge in simulation of renewable energy systems and HVAC systems. Excellent programming skils in any object-oriented language. Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Good skills in statistics and methods of data analysis (e.g. clustering, probability) are welcome. Your English must be fluent, both written and spoken. Fluent German/Swiss-German is mandatory.
