Full Time Faculty Position in Mathematics Touro College, Department of Mathematics

JOB SUMMARY: 
The candidate should have a Masters level degree, and should have majored in Mathematics, with specialty in Actuarial Studies. The job will require teaching "higher level" mathematics courses and actuarial specialty courses. The candidate will be asked to advise and mentor students, in particular towards the series of actuarial examinations, as the appropriate topics are covered. Full time load is a minimum of four classes per semester. In addition, the position requires developing and administering curriculum modifications, aiding students in doing independent study projects, scholarly work, and evidence of research potential. Teaching assignments include classes at 2 campuses (LCW - Manhattan & LCM - Queens). There may also be a requirement to teach one or more overload classes. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Plan for instructional activities to include, lecture, class discussion, and projects.
• Provide academic student advisement and maintain regular office hours; participate in student recruitment activities related to programs that require mathematics.
• Aid students in doing independent study projects.
• Serve on college committees.
• Participate in ongoing professional development toward an understanding of advances and developments in mathematics and related subjects as well as the teaching profession
• Contribute to the department's curriculum development efforts

REQUIREMENTS: 

Education, Preparation, and Training

• A Masters Degree in Mathematics is required
• Experience- in teaching Mathematics and Actuarial Studies (at least 3 years at the College level).
• Associate Actuary with at least 5 years of work in the field.

Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Requires ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with frequent high levels of urgency or sensitivity.
• Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in a team environment.
