PhD position in Computer-Assisted Drug Design for Big Data analysis
The goal of the PhD project is to apply and develop ligand- and receptor-based molecular design methods and machine learning algorithms for small molecule design in drug discovery. A central aspect of the position will be scientific software programming and application.
The position is part of the Euopean Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN project BigCHEM (Horizon 2020 MSC ITN EID project), providing innovative education in large chemical data analysis. The program is jointly realized by academic and industrial institutions within EU and Switzerland. The advertised position is hosted by ETH Zurich and Boehringer-Ingelheim as the industrial partner. The successful candidate will spend at least 50% of time with the industrial partner. Tasks include:
Qualifications
• The successful candidate should have a strong background in chem/bioinformatics, programming and in chemistry and essentially live in both worlds. • He/she should possess good knowledge of machine learning algorithms. • We expect solid programming skills in languages like Java and/or C, scripting languages and cheminformatics programming toolkits. • Candidates should be highly motivated, self-organized, creative, displaying initiative and used to thinking sideways. • Excellent command of the English language is expected. • Candidates must be willing to travel and work for half of their time in the pharmaceutical industry.
