  • Teaching component

The University of Adelaide is one of Australia's leading Group of Eight, research-intensive universities and is consistently ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world. Established in 1874, it is Australia's third oldest university with a strong reputation for preparing educated leaders and delivering research outcomes that contribute to local, national and global wellbeing.

University of Adelaide employees enjoy a range of benefits and favourable work conditions that include opportunities for career development and advancement.

The School of Mathematical Sciences is one of seven schools that make up the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. It offers an intellectual environment, developing students with skills in high level mathematics. The school provided specific degrees in mathematical sciences and computer sciences with specialisations in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics.

This position is funded from the ARC Discovery Project "Suspension flows and particle focusing in curved geometries". The successful applicant will join a team developing mathematical models to give quantitative understanding of the fundamental physics of suspension flows in curved ducts and channels in which the fluid depth is small relative to the width. Specific applications of interest are mineral processing in spiral particle separators and segregation of cells in the spiral inertial microfluidic sorter.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with the project leader Assoc. Prof. Yvonne Stokes, University of Adelaide. The position provides opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Andrea Bertozzi, University of California, Los Angeles, an internationally recognized expert in fluid mechanics and modelling with partial differential equations. We will also collaborate with experimentalists. The position includes a teaching component.

Salary: (Level A, with PhD) $78,525 - $89,425 per annum.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% applies.

Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for a period of 3 years.
