About Simula

Simula Research Laboratory AS (http://simula.no) is a publicly owned research institute located outside Oslo, Norway. It is a multi-cultural organization, employing about 140 individuals from more than 25 countries. Simula is conducting ICT research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering, and has repeatedly been publicly evaluated to be at an internationally leading level. Simula's main objective is to generate new understanding and create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value for society.

Project Description

Certus is a research-based innovation centre (http://certus-sfi.no/) gathering several partners around Simula to focus on verification and validation of complex software systems. Current partners include industrial companies such as ABB Robotics, Cisco Systems, Esito and Kongsberg Maritime and public administrations such as the Directorate of Customs and Excises and the Cancer Registry of Norway.

In the context of Certus, software engineers and researchers have teamed up to create an innovative environment where specialized expertise and creative research combine to produce readily exploitable, takeaway results.

We are now looking for 2 PhD students to be employed at Simula, but ready to spend working time at the premises of our partners. The topics of these positions span several areas related to validation and verification of data-centric systems using collective intelligence, and machine learning to ensure anti-fragile systems.

Your Profile

  • A Master's degree in computer science/engineering, information technology or similar/equivalent fields with strong results
  • Good knowledge of software engineering and interested in artificial intelligence/machine learning
  • Excellent communication skills and eager to learn
  • Publications on peer-reviewed international conferences/journals will be considered as a plus
