Instructor in Mechatronics/Robotics/Electronics Schoolcraft College, Department of Electrical Engineering
Full-time Faculty position starting Fall 2016.
Job Summary/Basic Function: Teaching faculty are responsible to their appropriate administrator. Job Duties/Responsibilities 1. Teach courses in accordance with the description published in the Catalog and Common Syllabus. It is recognized that the methods, procedures and interpretations of various instructors may differ. 2. Distribute Course Syllabus to the first session of each class. Such syllabus must contain, at a minimum, all of the elements of the master course syllabus and model the common syllabus. 3. Schedule office hours for student consultation and post these hours prominently. 4. Meet all scheduled classes, office hours, and final examinations as scheduled. 5. Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty meetings and Advisory Committee meetings and activities unless excused by the appropriate administrative officer or unless classes conflict. 6. Provide timely feedback to students regarding their progress. 7. Maintain attendance and grade reports and submit them to the Registrar's Office within established timelines. 8. Report to administration, students who are in need of additional student or learning support services. 9. Complete requested reports on student athletes and submit them within established timelines. 10. While teaching, respond to college-related and student communications in a timely manner. 11. Attend and participate in all scheduled department, discipline, division meetings, and college-wide trainings. 12. Assist the appropriate administrator in the maintenance of the laboratory and laboratory equipment used by the instructor. 13. Cooperate with his/her department in developing course syllabi and academic programs and participate in the textbook selection process. 14. Participate, when necessary, in the Program Outcome Assessment and, where appropriate, in the State-mandated Performance Review of Occupation Education (PROE). 15. When teaching a distance learning course, comply with established Distance Learning (DL) Department processes for submitting and posting course materials. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, or related field. 2. Five (5) years of work experience in a related technical field. 3. PLC programming experience. 4. Demonstrated ability to program, trouble-shoot, and repair modern electronic equipment, including robotics. 5. Ability to develop robotics and automation curriculum. 6. Ability to develop curriculum for hydraulics and pneumatics. 7. Ability to utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course material. 8. Experience in organizing and writing reports and presentations of a technical nature. 9. Proven educational or administrative experience in critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills. 10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, the Internet, and learning management system software. 11. Able to obtain and maintain licenses, if applicable, as required by the state or accrediting organizations. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, or related field. 2. Siemen's Mechatronic Systems Certification Program Certified Instructor. 3. Programming in C and C++. 4. Knowledge and ability to maintain and repair electronics lab equipment. 5. Programming in LabView. 6. Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching or training delivery. 7. Demonstrated competency in computer technology and instructional technology. 8. Demonstrated understanding of the role of the community college in higher education and the community. 9. Knowledgeable in the learning needs and abilities of today's community college student. 10. Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills which demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and responsively with community college students, faculty and staff. 11. Ability to employ new pedagogies, multi-media and information technologies to supplement instruction within the classroom and alternative delivery methodologies. 12.
