Postdoctoral Researcher in Probabilistic Machine LearningThe Department of Computer Science at the Aalto University School of Science is presently looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Probabilistic Machine Learning (Helsinki, Finland) The position belongs to the Aalto career system and the selected person will be appointed for a two-year fixed term appointment with an option for renewal. The person hired will participate in research on Gaussian processes, functional constraints, big data, approximative Bayesian inference, model selection and assessment, deep learning, and survival analysis models (e.g. cardiovascular diseases and cancer). Methods will be implemented mostly in GPy and Stan. The research will be made in Probabilistic Machine Learning group, Department of Computer Science, Aalto University, Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT. Probabilistic Machine Learning group has more than 35 people, and the department has several other related groups in Machine Learning, Data Mining, and Bioinformatics. The research will be made in collaboration with University of Columbia, University of Sheffield, Imperial College London, Technical University of Denmark, The National Institute for Health and Welfare, University of Helsinki, and Helsinki University Central Hospital. ResponsibilitiesIn addition to research work, persons hired are expected to participate in the supervision of students and teaching following the standard practices at the department. QualificationsThe candidate should have a Ph.D. good knowledge of Bayesian methods and some of the other research topics, and good programming skills. Good command of English is a necessary prerequisite. Compensation, working hours and place of workThe salary for the position is between 3 498 and 3 673 EUR per month depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to the salary, the contract includes occupational health benefits, and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The annual total workload of teaching staff at Aalto University is 1 600 hours. The position is located at the Aalto University Otaniemi campus.
