Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), the first specialized independent national graduate university in Japan, with the goal of contributing actively to the global society, invites applications from outstanding individuals for a faculty position in the SCHOOL OF INFORMATION SCIENCE. The school aims to establish the foundation of a trustworthy e-society, through the research and education to support social infrastructures such as medical, educational, logistic, and governmental activities, using theoretical information science, human information processing, artificial intelligence, computer systems and networks, and software science. We are seeking a new faculty member who is active in both research and education, and takes sincere interest in guiding students to success.

The successful candidate for the position of Professor or Associate Professor is expected to:
-Conduct active research and education in the field of information security;
-Give lectures related to the School of Information Science;
-Supervise and instruct students in laboratory work in master's and doctoral programs;
-Supervise the laboratory work of sub-theme for the students of other laboratories; 
-Render the university practical services including helping recruit excellent students, taking on committee work, and so on;
-Willingly assist their laboratory students in finding suitable career positions after graduation;
-Contribute to the society.

Qualifications

The successful candidate is expected to:
-Possess a doctoral degree in a related field by the time of appointment;
-Excel in and be enthusiastic about education and guidance for graduate students in accordance with the Mission and Goals of JAIST;
-Have a proven record of expertise in conducting research in the area of information security and cyber security;
-Be capable of undertaking domestic and international research initiatives in competitive areas of advanced research; 
-Promote joint research projects through collaborations with other researchers; and
-Be capable of giving lectures and supervising students in English (Fluency in Japanese is considered as an advantage).

[Selection process (selection method and hiring decision), notification of result]
The selection will be conducted based on results and achievements in the areas of research and education and on your future plans of work at JAIST. We will take into consideration not only the number of papers, but also the contents of publications and research.
In order to select the final candidate, the selection committee will conduct interviews with the candidates selected in the initial screening.
Interviews will be held either in English or Japanese to evaluate the candidates based on the abovementioned qualifications for applicants.
We will also include practical work experience in our evaluation.
The evaluation of applications will be strictly unbiased and its result will be kept confidential.
