MULTIPLE POSITIONS IN ENGINEERING

 

The School of Engineering invites applications from outstanding individuals for the following tenure track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The School currently offers seven undergraduate programs with both co-op and non-co-op majors: biological, biomedical, computer, engineering systems and computing, environmental, mechanical, and water resources engineering programs.

 
1. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breadth of expertise that encompasses risk assessment, water supply and water security. A strong interest in international water resources engineering is important. The candidate must have a first degree in engineering and an earned doctorate degree in a field relevant to water resources or environmental engineering. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of engineering courses (particularly courses such as assessment and management of risk, urban water systems and hydrology) as well as graduate courses.  Position #: 0126-145


2. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breath of expertise in power systems. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in power systems covering one or more of the following areas of research: smart grid, micro-grid, distributed energy generation and grid integration, renewable electrical energy generation, energy storage technologies, power electronics, and new tools for energy distribution systems modeling. The applicant should have a bachelor, master and doctorate degree in the field of electrical or computer engineering, or closely related engineering fields. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of computer engineering and core engineering courses including electrical circuits. Position #: 0126-146


3. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breadth of expertise in materials engineering. Successful candidates will have demonstrated research abilities in mechanical engineering and will play a key role in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Candidates in all related fields to materials engineering are encouraged to apply but special consideration will be given to applicants with strengths in mechanical properties of materials, material processing and fabrication, computational material modeling methods, additive manufacturing, and experimental characterization of advanced materials. The candidate must have a first degree in mechanical engineering.  An earned doctorate degree in mechanical engineering is preferred but related fields are welcome. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of mechanical engineering and core engineering design courses. Position #: 0126-147


4. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breadth of expertise in the areas of solid mechanics/thermos-fluids. Candidates in all related fields to solid mechanics and thermos-fluids are encouraged to apply but special consideration will be given to applicants with strengths in one or more of the following fields: computational solid mechanics with a focus on advanced finite element modeling of material behavior, stress analysis, dynamics, applied thermodynamics, clean energy, and optimization of thermal systems. The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and an earned doctorate degree in mechanical engineering. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of mechanical engineering and core engineering undergraduate courses including machine design, finite elements analysis, applied thermos, fluid dynamic, energy system design and core engineering design courses. 5. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breadth of expertise in biomedical engineering. Successful candidates will have demonstrated research abilities in biomechanical engineering and will play a key role in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Applicants are particularly sought with expertise in sports biomechanics, musculoskeletal rehabilitation and/or injury prevention. The candidate must have a first degree in engineering and an earned doctorate degree in a field relevant to biomedical/biomechanics engineering. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of biomedical engineering and core engineering undergraduate and graduate courses including biomechanical engineering design. 6. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breadth of expertise in bioreactor and bioprocess design. Applicants are particularly sought with expertise in design and development of bioreactors, bioprocess modelling and simulation, biopharmaceutical processing, and food and beverage processing.  The candidate must have a first degree in engineering and an earned doctorate degree in a field relevant to biological, bio-systems or chemical engineering. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of biological engineering and core engineering undergraduate and graduate courses including mass transfer and bioreactor design.  Position #: 0126-150


7. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a breadth of expertise in one or more of the following areas: resource recovery, site remediation, green process engineering, and/or simulation and management of environmental systems of different scales. The candidate must have a first degree in engineering and an earned doctorate degree in environmental or chemical engineering, or a closely related field. Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate engineering courses (particularly courses such as fate mechanisms, environmental systems and site remediation). Candidates with experience in environmental engineering design and demonstrated strength teaching engineering problem solving and design are of particular interest. Position #0126-155


8. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position who has a breadth of expertise in environmental engineering including design, environmental system analysis, contaminant transport and control technologies that span a breadth of environmental media. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate engineering courses with a focus on engineering design, environmental engineering systems and fate mechanisms. Candidates with demonstrated experience teaching engineering problem analysis and design are of particular interest. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program that compliments and extends the current range of research in the program. The candidate must have a first degree in engineering and an earned doctorate degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering or another relevant field. Position #0126-062.


9. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position in the discipline of computer engineering. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of academic and research programs and to contribute to the University of Guelph research community. To be considered for this position, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering and have earned a doctorate in computer engineering or a related field; have an outstanding research and publication record; and have teaching experience at the university level. The incumbent’s research record must be related to one of the following areas: computer architectures, high-performance computing and real-time computing.  Qualified applicants for this position will be expected to teach core engineering undergraduate and graduate courses, develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program (funded by external funding sources), and provide service to the University and the engineering profession.  Position #: 0126-123.


10. The School of Engineering seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position in the discipline of biomedical engineering who has a breadth of expertise in biomedical engineering related to imaging. Successful candidates will have experience and demonstrated research abilities in instrumentation and sensors with applications in medical imaging.  The candidate will also play a key role in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as medical imaging modalities, instrumentation, advanced medical imaging, signal processing, electric circuits and core courses for biomedical engineering. The candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a doctorate in biomedical engineering, or a related field.  Position # 0126-132.

 

 

Successful candidates for these positons will have demonstrated research abilities to develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program. They will play a key role in teaching undergraduate program specific and core engineering courses, mentor graduate and undergraduate students and provide service to the University and the engineering profession.

 

Preference will be given to candidates who combine excellence in teaching with a demonstrated capacity to conduct novel, interdisciplinary research that will expand and complement our current research strengths. The School has a particular strength and emphasis in design.  Preference will be given to candidates with design experience in industry or consulting, or significant post-doctoral academic experience whom can teach one of our core engineering design courses. Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is a requirement of these positions at the time of hiring.

 

The University of Guelph has well-established and accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs in biological engineering, biomedical engineering, computer engineering, engineering systems and computing, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, and water resources engineering. At present the School is comprised of over 45 faculty members, 27 staff and technicians, 1700 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students.

 

The City of Guelph is known for its educational and cultural life and has often been rated as one of the best cities in Canada. It is surrounded by rolling farmland, possesses an excellent public transit system and a wide variety of housing possibilities. The City is within easy driving distance of metropolitan Toronto and recreational areas, from the Niagara wine region to Lake Huron and the ski hills of Collingwood.
