The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must be able to contribute to the departmental focal areas in Renewable Energy and Power Systems. We seek outstanding candidates with expertise in power & energy systems with specialty in areas such as power semiconductor devices, smart-grid, and integration of renewables. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance our excellence in research and strengthen our strong commitment to teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The ideal candidate would also provide synergistic research collaborations with our faculty working in renewable energy. UCSC is the home of many research centers and programs including the program for Sustainable Energy and Power Systems. We are also affiliated with CITRIS (the California Institute for Information Technology Research in the Service of Society).
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program, obtain external funding, teach courses that contribute to the Electrical Engineering Department undergraduate and graduate curriculum, mentor and advise students at the graduate and undergraduate level, and perform University and professional service. The candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and/or service.
RANK: Assistant Professor
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or a closely related field expected to be conferred by June 30, 2017; demonstrated record of research; demonstrated record of publications; and, demonstrated experience in university teaching.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated excellence in innovative research; and/or a strong record of publications; and/or demonstrated excellence in university teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and/or, a record of extramural funding.
POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2017 with the academic year beginning September 2017. Ph.D. must be conferred by June 30, 2018 for employment beyond this date.
