The Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) at the University of Surrey seeks to recruit an outstanding postdoctoral research in the fields of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. The post is part of the recently funded EPSRC project “TAPESTRY: Trust, Authentication and Privacy over a DeCentralised Social Registry”. The expected start date is April/May 2017. TAPESTRY will develop novel machine learning algorithms for large scale visual and text based analysis of social media and web based content. The aim of the project is investigate, develop and demonstrate new ways to enable people, businesses and services to connect safely online. The project will develop a platform through which users may detect deviations in posting behaviour in their online identities e.g. to detect account hijacking, or through which users may share portions of their digital activity at specific granularities to establish a web of trust online. Microsoft Research and the Home Office. Surrey is the leading project partner and is responsible for researching, designing and developing the underlying technology. Successful applicants will be working under supervision of Dr John Collomosse and will benefit from the environments provided by Surrey’s Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing – one of the UK’s major research centres in Machine Learning and Computer Vision with over 120 researchers – and Surrey’s Centre for Cyber Security, an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research recognized by the British Government. Successful applicants will have core skills in machine learning (e.g. deep convnets for visual analytics) and computer vision (e.g. visual concept detection, visual search) and strong software implementation skills (e.g. web services for interaction with social media platforms). They are expected to hold a PhD, be able to drive their own research direction within the scope of the project and engage with project partners.
