Applications are invited for the following positions in the Faculty of Education, to commence on September 1, 2017, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.


For professoriate positions, applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, a professional teaching qualification in the relevant discipline and substantial experience in teaching at the tertiary level. Knowledge of the local context would be an advantage. Appointees will be required to teach on courses offered by the Faculty at various levels from undergraduate to doctorate, supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research, undertake school practicum supervision and administrative responsibilities. Professoriate staff may be considered for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

For Lecturer positions, applicants should have at least a higher degree in the relevant area, a professional teaching qualification, not less than 5 years’ teaching experience, and good knowledge of the local education scene. Appointees will be required to take up substantial teaching responsibilities, undertake school practicum supervision and assume administrative responsibilities. Candidates with less experience will be considered for Assistant Lecturer position.

1. Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Chinese Language and Literature (1 post) (Ref.: 201601713)


Applicants should have strong teaching and research experience in two or more of the following areas: Chinese linguistics, Chinese language education, and teaching Chinese as second language. Those with knowledge and experience relating to the IB Chinese curriculum would be desirable. For Professorship appointment, applicants should possess strong academic credentials, outstanding academic leadership capabilities, extensive experience in conducting externally funded and rigorous field-based research, and a distinguished record of scholarship. 2. Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in English Language Education (1 post) (Ref.: 201601714)


Applicants should have strong teaching and research experience in any relevant specialism of applied linguistics, educational linguistics and/or English language teacher education. The appointee will be expected to teach courses related to second language acquisition, language across the curriculum, genre-based pedagogies, new media and literacies, pedagogical grammar, and discourse analysis, among others. 3. Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Physics/Science Education (1 post) (Ref.: 201601715)
Applicants should have a strong research and teaching experience in Physics/Science education. The appointee will be expected to teach Physics education and Science education courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Those with knowledge and experience relating to the IB Chinese curriculum and assessment would be preferable. 5. Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in the Division of Learning, Development and Diversity (1 post) (Ref.: 201601717)


Applicants should have strong teaching experience in Educational Psychology, Counselling and Guidance, or related areas. The appointee should be able to teach courses on educational psychology and counselling, as well as our remodeled Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) using an inquiry-based approach, and to conduct teaching practicum visits. 6. Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in the Division of Policy, Administration and Social Sciences Education (1 post) (Ref.: 201601718)


Applicants should have a strong teaching background and experience in the Key Learning Area of Personal, Social and Humanities Education (PSHE). They should also have a solid background in sociology of education, inquiry-based approaches, and in curriculum design for initial teacher education. The appointee will be expected to teach pedagogy courses (particularly in relation to PSHE), to teach on our remodeled Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) using an inquiry-based approach, and to conduct teaching practicum visits. 7. Assistant Lecturer in the Division of Information and Technology Studies (2 posts) (Ref.: 201601719)


Applicants should have strong teaching experience with a proven track record in any area under Information and Technology Studies, particularly project management, information behaviour, organizational learning, social network analysis, management of information systems, and health information management. Ideally they should have an academic background in information science and information management, with teaching interests in exploring socio-technical dimensions of information in organizational and social contexts. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary for posts (1) to (3) and for posts (4) to (6) - Lecturer; and 10% of basic salary for posts (4) to (6) - Assistant Lecturer, and for post (7). Housing benefits will be provided as applicable for professoriate appointments [posts (1) to (3)].
