Belgium, Brussels Job description The Faculty of Sciences and BioEngineering of Vrije Universiteit Brussel invites applications For a new Professor in Artificial Intelligence. The candidate will join the AI lab (ai.vub.ac.be) of the Department of Computer Science. The candidate is expected to contribute to the research and teaching of the AI team. The lab has strong national as well as international collaborations and based in the heart of Brussels, offers plenty of possibilities for collaboration with industry. Founded in 1983, by Luc Steels, the AI lab became the first Artificial Intelligence lab on European mainland. The lab is active in a variety of AI domains, including Evolution of language, machine learning, multi-agent systems, reinforcement learning , evolutionary systems and bioinformatics. More information on current and past projects can be found at http://ai.vub.ac.be/research/projects The position is open to all domains of AI and to all levels, senior professor as well as junior professor (tenure track), provided the candidate has at least 3 years of postdoc experience.
The teaching assignment includes both general undergraduate courses in computer science as well as specialized research-oriented master’s courses in artificial intelligence. The successful candidatehas proven pedagogical and didactic skills. The teaching assignment and precise list of subjects will be discussed with the candidate and will depend on his/her expertise and language skills. The candidate has knowledge of the teaching languages Dutch and English.
The vacancy is open to all disciplines within AI. The successful candidate will complement and strengthen the research activities of the Lab, e.g. contribute new expertise that is relevant to ongoing research. Core duties and responsibilities will include the supervision of master and PhD students, and the management and active participation in the development of AI as a specialization. The prospective candidate will also be expected to spearhead the launch of new research projects, both fundamental research as well as research in collaboration with industry, and to raise funds for these.

Academic qualifications Ph.D. in Science (Computer Science) or related. The candidate has at least 3 years experience as a post-doctoral researcher. He/she had outstanding academic credentials and an excellent publication record that demonstrate the required expertise.
