In this new pioneering position you will be given an opportunity to create and build the basis for integrating design thinking in electrical engineering education. The School of Electrical Engineering educates future game changers for the society. In addition to research excellence in electrical engineering, the School is committed to high quality education and aims to integrate design and creativity aspects into teaching in order to develop students’ capabilities for creating innovations for the benefit of the society. 


 
JOB DESCRIPTION 


We are seeking for a visionary person with design background to develop new ways of incorporating art and design components in electrical engineering education. You will be expected to be a forerunner fostering design-thinking spirit among students and the faculty of the School. As a lecturer, you will be contributing to the existing courses, planning and execution of new course(s) and most importantly, injecting a solution oriented design thinking into our students´ engineering mindset. You are also expected to actively support curriculum development in BSc and MSc level education. As a design expert, you will contribute in deepening collaboration between the School of Arts, Design and Architecture and the School of Electrical Engineering by bridging the joint educational efforts. Although the main emphasis of this task is teaching and education development, your activities in research/artistic work will be encouraged and supported.

The School of Electrical Engineering has four departments that cover the special fields of automation and systems technology, electronics and information technology, power engineering, communications engineering, micro- and nanoengineering and bioinformation technology.  


 
REQUIREMENTS 


We expect you to be passionate in sharing your design expertise to the others and also to learn of new disciplines yourself. Your background can be in any field of design. It is important that you possess a strong record in artistic activities and ambition in relevant fields. This position will be filled either to the level of University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer, depending on the merits of the selected candidate. A successful applicant preferably has a doctoral degree or comparable artistic qualification (Master´s Degree at university level is a requirement), has extensive background in design in academia or in the creative industry, possesses excellent pedagogical skills and has experience in teaching design at the university level. Prior knowledge of engineering education and experience in cross-disciplinary collaboration is a merit. Fluent English will be necessary in this position, Finnish is regarded as an advantage. 


 
SALARY AND CONTRACT TERMS 


Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities, but applicants may also provide their own salary requests. The position will be initially filled for five years at the level of University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer on the Aalto University lecturer track. The position includes occupational health and social security benefits. The preferred starting date of employment is August 2017, but this can be also negotiated.
