Job description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Communications Research Group at University of Sussex. The candidate will contribute actively to an EPSRC funded research project in in-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. The aim of the project is to improve the reliability of the network and guarantee stringent mission-critical requirements of vehicle applications, and develop mission-critical and intelligent in-vehicle/V2V network protocols, ranging from MAC up to network layers, based on the latest in-vehicle and V2V communication technologies.

The main research tasks include development of innovative and intelligent in-vehicle communication protocols, design of access and congestion control solutions by exploring dynamic nature of channels/traffic patterns and self-learning techniques, design of QoS-aware interworking for heterogeneous in-vehicle and V2V networks. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our industry partners, NXP Semiconductor, Toyota and HW Communications on the test and validation of the proposed approaches.

This position can be filled by an appropriate candidate at research fellow level, depending on relevant qualifications and experience. Appointment at research fellow level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience).

The candidate should hold a relevant degree (e.g. Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science) in the research field of vehicular communication network systems. Experience in algorithm and protocol designs, mathematical modelling, vehicular power line communications, vehicular wireless communications would be highly desirable. It will be expected that the successful candidate can carry out independent research and produce high-quality publications.
