Associate Professor in Information Systems

 

The University of Agder invites applications for up to 3 full-time, permanent positions as Associate Professor in Information Systems at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Information Systems, located in Kristiansand, Norway. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

 

The Department of information systems at UiA is one of Norway´s largest academic information systems groups. We offer a bachelor’s programme, a master’s programme and a PhD specialization in Information Systems. In addition, the department is co-responsible for an executive master in management, an executive master in health informatics and is currently developing an MBA specialization in digitalization.

 

The main research areas in the department are digitalization, e-health and crisis informatics. Description of the position

 

We seek productive researchers that can contribute to the department´s ambition of being among the top international research milieus in our priority areas. Candidates are expected to contribute with research on our prioritized areas - including developing grant proposals and attracting externally funded projects. Candidates are also expected to contribute to the department´s existing teaching portfolio as well as taking part in developing this further. The department has extensive collaboration with practice and new candidates are expected to take part in such collaboration.

 

In addition to teaching- and scientific qualifications, emphasis will be given to the applicants’ teamwork skills and personal suitability for the position. Applicants who lack formal teacher training qualifications or extensive teaching experience will be required to obtain such qualifications, and should complete UiA’s Foundation Course in Education for University Lecturers within a period of two years.

 

The candidate is expected to contribute to further development of the teaching methods in the department.

 

Qualifications and terms

 

In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must hold a PhD in Information Systems, Computer Science or other relevant fields. Strong emphasis will be put on teaching capabilities and candidates need to document competence and experience in relevant areas. We are specifically looking for candidates who can contribute to develop executive courses and programmes in our priority areas digitalization, health informatics and integrated emergency management.

 

Information about the appointment criteria for a position as Associate Professor can be found in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

 

Personal suitability will be emphasized. In the ranking of eligible applicants, emphasis will be given to the suitability of each applicant’s field of specialization in relation to meeting the needs of the Department and complementing the academic staff. In the interest of gender balance, women will be preferred when qualifications are equal. Short-listed applicants will be invited for interviews and for a demonstration of their teaching competence, usually in the form of a trial lecture. With the applicant’s permission, UIA will also conduct a reference check before appointment.

 

Language is particularly important when teaching executive courses and we are looking for 1-2 candidates who are fluent in a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish). Applicants who do not speak Norwegian or another Scandinavian language are expected to acquire the necessary proficiency to lecture in Norwegian. The University of Agder offers Norwegian language courses to international employees with little or no knowledge of Norwegian and facilitates participation in such courses. Permanently employed staff are expected to acquire good command of oral and written Norwegian within a period of two years. This is to be documented by passing the Bergen test with a minimum score of 450 points.

The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1011 Associate Professor NOK 537.300 – 673.400 gross per year. In case of particularly highly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
