In the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at the Faculty of Computer Science, the position
Chair (W3) of Machine Learning for Computer Vision


is to be filled as soon as possible. The successful candidate is required to represent the
area mentioned above in research and teaching. The teaching responsibilities cover courses
in the area of the chair for all study tracks at the Faculty of Computer Science in german and
english language. Furthermore, the participation in introductory courses, in particular in the
area of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and in courses for other faculties is expected.


Research should include original contributions to the foundations of at least one of the
directions: computer vision, image and video analysis, image/scene understanding, scene
reconstruction, and machine learning, as well as their implementation in corresponding
systems and applications. In particular, the research focus should be on developing,
adapting, optimising, or using methods from Machine Learning to solve challenging
problems in computer vision and image analysis, ideally for multiple applications. Besides
cooperation within the Faculty of Computer Science and the School of Engineering, close
collaborations are expected with the DRESDEN-concept partner institutions and the Central
Academic Units of TU Dresden, in particular with the Competence Center for Scalable Data
Service and Solutions (ScaDS), and the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD). The
duties include participation in self-administration.


The applicant should have experience in one or multiple selected application areas, such as
bioliogical or medical image analysis, manufacturing automation, robotics, driver assistance
systems, augmented reality, or automation in natural environments. Special emphasis is on
international publications and contacts as well as independently acquired research projects in
the areas mentioned above. Excellent teaching abilities are assumed, as well as Habilitation
or habilitation-equivalent accomplishments. Applicants must fulfil the employment
qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher
Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act –
SächsHSFG).
