Project Researcher (PhD Student), Electrical Engineering (Smart and Flexible Power Systems) This is a fixed term position for 3 years with a start date at the beginning of January 2018 or as agreed. The position is located in the Faculty of Technology (as of January 2018 School of Technology and Innovations). This position is connected to the Smart Electric Systems (SES) research group. More information on the research group is available at: http://www.uva.fi/en/fields/technology/groups/ses/ More information about the Department:http://www.uva.fi/en/about/organisation/faculties/electrical_engineering_and_energy_technology/ Tasks: The tasks of this Project Researcher (PhD Student) position are mainly focused on research for the doctoral degree. Depending on the applicant’s background and interests the research can focus either on advanced active distribution network management methods or on adaptive and proactive protection solutions for future low or zero-inertia electricity networks / microgrids. All tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan. The annual working time for the Project Researcher (PhD Student) is 1624 hours. Requirements: Position requires a relevant master’s degree and proven ability to conduct scientific research on the specified area. The main research work will be carried out with simulation tools such as PSCAD, Matlab SimPowerSystems and OPAL-RT real-time simulator. Therefore, knowledge on these tools (at least some of them) as well as on power system protection, control of power electronics based inverter interfaced DER units and programming are beneficial for the position. In addition, experience from microgrids, energy storages, IEC 61850 based standards, protection relays/phasor measurement units (PMUs) or small signal stability is seen as an asset. Strong written & spoken English language skills are mandatory. Salary: The salary is based on the University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The salary for a Project Researcher (PhD Student) is based on demand levels 2-4 (1985 - 2475 €), and an additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance (4-46.3%).
