Tenure-Track Faculty Position: Nano- and micro-systems
The Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) has a reputation for innovative programs, cutting-edge research, leading faculty, and aspiring students. The Faculty has approximately 180 faculty members, 5,000 undergraduate and 1000 graduate students.
McMaster University is renowned for its research and education programs in the fields of Health Sciences and Engineering. In partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering recently established a new Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences undergraduate program, which is complemented by graduate programs in the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering.
Within this context, the Department of Engineering Physics is seeking an outstanding individual for a tenure-track or tenured position in Nano- and micro-systems. The appointment is intended to be at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor or Professor level may also be considered.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Engineering Physics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering or science discipline, and have expertise in the field of nano- and micro-systems. Possible research topics may include, but are not limited to, Si photonics,III-V optoelectronics,2D electronics, and/orplasmonics for applications in biosensing, energy, and information and communications technology. Successful candidates will ideally make use of the facilities in the Centre for Emerging Device Technologies, the Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research, and/or the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy.
Consistent with McMaster’s vision of being a research-intensive university, the successful applicant will be expected to develop a dynamic externally funded research program. Relevant industrial experience, the ability to interact with other research groups (on- and off-campus), and interest in creating and maintaining ties with major industrial players within the broader community, will be essential. The successful candidate is expected to explore potential research collaborations within the University. The candidate is expected to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
A demonstrated or strong potential for excellence in teaching and curriculum development in Engineering Physics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for a full or limited licence from Professional Engineers Ontario.

McMaster University’s beautiful campus is at the north-west end of Hamilton on the western end of Lake Ontario, between the Niagara Escarpment, conservation lands, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Hamilton, with a population of over 500,000, is a vibrant community with easy access to Toronto and the Niagara region. It is located at the northern tip of an ecological zone commonly called the Carolinian Forest that encompasses the southernmost portion of Ontario and occurs nowhere else in Canada.
