In 2010, DGUT was listed into the initial institutions for national “Outstanding Engineers Cultivation Project”, together with Tsinghua university, Shanghai Jiaotong University and all 61 universities. In 2012, DGUT was approved as the “Guangdong International Science and Technology Cooperation Base”. In 2014, DGUT has been granted as one of provincial Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Bases by Guangdong Province. In 2015, DGUT signed the agreement of co-building high-level technology university with the government of guangdong province, In 2015, DGUT signed the agreement of co-building high-level technology university with the government of Guangdong province. In 2016, Siemens (China) chose DGUT and Tsinghua-UC Berkeley Shenzhen Institute as partners to co-build the ‘Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center’ for industry 4.0.
DGUT has been leading and involving in over 1000 research projects, such as the National “973”Project, “863”Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National Social Science Fund, Provincial Major Science and Technology Projects, GD-HK-Macao Key-area Breakthrough Project. The teacher also received Award of Science and Technology and a number of patent awards, such as the Geneva International Patent Technology Fair Gold Medal, the National Invention Patent Award, Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and Dongguan Science and Technology Progress Award.
Dongguan city government provides matching funds for DGUT's NSFC projects to source and secure the successful implementation of leading international research projects. Additionally, DGUT will be highly developed by the strong support from both Guangdong province and Dongguan city. In the coming five years, it is estimated that 3.5 billion CNY will be provided by the government of Dongguan and Guangdong province to start the programme of co-building high-level technology university, which provides resourceful talents and technical supports for China's innovation-driven development. DGUT has 2 distinguished professors of Chinese Academy of Sciences academician, 3 double appointment academician, 2 Chang-jiang scholar professors and 2 Qianren programme professors. Also, DGUT has invited Dr Qiu Chengtong, world-famous mathematician and winner of the Fields Prize for Mathematics, and other professors of international prestige have come one after another, engaged as our honorary professors, visiting professors or part-time professors and other famous experts from home and abroad.
