Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Informatics (EWI) trains innovative engineers and researchers. In addition, groundbreaking research is carried out within the faculty on sub-fields within electrical engineering, computer sciences and mathematics. Characteristic of our research is the great social relevance. The faculty has excellent facilities that accentuate the faculty's international position in education and research. Within this interdisciplinary and international setting, more than 1100 employees, including about 400 PhD students, and around 2,100 students work on the scientific challenges for the future in fields such as cyber security, embedded software, sustainable energy, bio-electronics, financial mathematics, etc.
As a lecturer in mathematics you will be placed at one of the sections of the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics (DIAM). The sections provide education and carry out research in their specific fields of mathematical modeling and applications in the technical sciences. DIAM conducts research in the field of design, analysis and simulation of mathematical models. This research is both analytical and numerical in nature and is inspired by technical applications. The department plays an active role in the translation of the research results into concrete practical applications. She maintains close contacts with the other faculties of TU Delft, the major technological institutes (ECN, NLR, WL, Rijkswaterstaat, MARIN, TNO) and research laboratories.
Job description
What is technique without mathematics? As a mathematics teacher, you contribute to the leading international education that TU Delft stands for. You train the engineers of the future by teaching mathematics in an inspiring and successful way in the Bachelor program Applied Mathematics, the master program Applied Mathematics, but especially in the basic courses (Linear Algebra, Analysis and possibly Probability theory and Statistics) within service education at other programs within TU Delft. The education in these subjects is currently being renewed, and the new teacher is expected to make an active contribution and open attitude.
Requirements
You have a university degree in Mathematics and you have a PhD. You have affinity and experience with or aptitude for giving inspirational education. You are interested in and motivated for innovation in education. You also have good communication skills in both Dutch and English, and interdisciplinary interest. Because TU Delft is an international environment, specific demands are placed on the English language skills of the teachers. TU Delft offers training courses for those who do not (yet) meet these requirements. We are looking for a Mathematics teacher who is preferably available from 1 September 2018.
Conditions of employment
The job has a size of 32 hours (0.8 FTE) per week. It concerns a (temporary) appointment of 2 years. The salary is based on scale 10 - 12 (with a maximum of € 5405, - gross per month for a full-time appointment). In addition, TU Delft offers an attractive package of secondary employment conditions, such as a flexible working week, a discount from health insurers, and the possibility of compiling an individual terms of employment package each year.
